Agape - the love of truth, the will to know and apply it, which guides the elect through the successive stages of spiritual development: begettal of the spirit, birth of the spirit, baptism in the spirit
Apocalypse - Christ's physical manifestation to the eyes of the world in the distress at the end of this system of things to usher in its place the order of the coming millennial Kingdom
Baptism in the spirit - literally 'immersion in the teaching'. Growth in maturity to understand and apply the truth
Begettal of the spirit - the inauguration of the new creation by the spirit of love of truth, which is given to the elect on the condition of repentance in the name of Jesus Christ
Birth of the spirit - the beginning of the new personality effected by the work of the new creation aimed at perpetuating the model of truth in character, (2) resurrection to the spiritual nature
Blood - the totality of the teachings of God's Word, which, when accepted by the believing mind, lead to 1) the death of the 'old man' (the ungodly personality) and 2) the sacrifice of the 'new man' (the personality renewed by the spirit and word of the Lord) to the service of the Gospel. The blood symbol, then, applies to the teachings of the Bible when we speak of their relationship to consecration (Jn. 6:35,51-58; Gen. 9:4; Jn. 1:4)
Body - 1) material shell, 2) character
Body of Christ - all believers in Jesus Christ, elect and non-elect
Book of life - a symbolic list of all who through faith in Christ Jesus have been born of the Spirit and thus restored to life, i.e. exempt from the death sentence which we have in Adam
Bread - Biblical teachings that develop character. The unleavened bread partaken of at the Lord's Supper represents the perfect example left by the Lord Jesus for believers to follow (Mt. 4:4; Jn. 4:34; 6:51-58)
Calling - 1) the proclamation of the Gospel inviting those who hear to repentance and conversion, 2) the granting by God of the spirit of new birth to the elect who listen to the Gospel and undertake repentance
Charism - the gift of grace in the form of 1) a specific ability or trait of mind or character of the chosen ones that enables them to undertake a particular type of service in the community (e.g., teaching, interpreting prophecy, charity work), 2) the ability to perform supernatural acts (speaking in tongues, healing), or 3) holding an office in the community resulting from other charisms possessed (deacon, elder, prophet).
Church - members of the Body of Christ incorporated on the basis of God's election in the Gospel Age
Cognition - (Gr. gnosis) - rational understanding of the truth, knowledge of the Word of God (concerning the new creation); (Gr. epignosis) - a model of truth developed as a seal of the spirit (concerns the inner man)
Consecration - 1) separation from sin, 2) service for the Word of God in its study, teaching and evangelization
Conversion - (Gr. epistrofe) - literally 'change of direction' - repentance-based approval for God's principles, positive assessment of righteous behaviour
Earnest of the spirit - agape - the love of truth, which is the source of renewal 1) of the mind through a deepening understanding of the Word of God and 2) of character through continual application of the principles of the truth
Egypt - the land of the trouble of Jacob's descendants, which in the antitype represents the present world order oppressing the Lord's people – Israel after the Spirit (Isa. 10:24-27, 19:1-25, 27:12-13, 30:2-3,31, Rev. 11:8)
Elect - believers who through repentance receive the spirit of sacrificial agape love, thus experiencing begettal of the spirit
Elijah - prophet of the Lord active in the ten-tribe kingdom of Israel in the time of king Ahab; in the antitype Elijah represents (1) John the Baptist, (2) the Gospel Church
Epiphany - enlightenment, the revelation of God to the eyes of understanding
Garment - symbol of the righteousness of character developed by the application of what the mind accepts and appreciates as the Word of God (Mt. 22:1-14; Jas. 1:22-25; Job 29:14; Ps. 132:9,16; Is. 61:10; Zech. 3:4)
Great multitude - spirit-born believers (antitypical Levites) who will be brought through the great tribulation at the end of this system of things and then changed to the spiritual nature at the inauguration of God's Kingdom
Inward man - personality: the spirit of the mind and the body of character (Rom. 7:22,23)
Israel - Abraham's descendants in the line of Jacob. The natural nation in the Bible pictures spiritual Israel – Abraham's descendants by faith, "who walk in the footsteps of the faith of our father Abraham," regardless of their national origin (Rom. 2:28-29, 4:12; Gal. 6:16; Jer. 31:31-33)
Judgement - 1) teaching, 2) testing, 3) correction, 4) final sentence
Judgement day - the period of Christ's Millennial Kingdom, during which resurrected mankind will be judged in all four senses of judgment, i.e., first instructed in the law of God, tested for progress made toward character reform, disciplined in cases of unintentional transgressions, and finally sentenced to life or death
Justification - the process of correcting man's character to full conformity to divine justice
Keys of the kingdom - permission granted to the apostle Peter by Jesus Christ to exercise legislative and judicial authority in the Kingdom of God, during the future judgment of mankind (Mt. 16:19)
Levites - in the Old Testament, the descendants of Levi who were ordained to assist the priests in exercising their ministry in the Tabernacle. In the New Testament, the antitype of the Levites are the spirit-born believers
Light - 1) righteousness (Mi. 7:9), 2) the truth of the Gospel which God has declared to the world through Jesus Christ (Jn. 1:17; 8:12; 2 Cor. 4:4-6)
Lord's Supper - celebration instituted by Jesus Christ at the last Passover with his disciples. Believers in Christ meet for the celebration of the Supper once a year, on a Passover day (Nisan 14th) to drink wine and eat unleavened bread in remembrance of the Lord's death
New Covenant - God's relationship with man based on conditions of justification, and therefore requiring repentance and conversion which will be accepted by God and which will initiate the process of the real reform of man according to the principles of divine justice
New creation - new mind shaped by development in the knowledge of the Word of God and maturity in its application
144 000 elect - members of the royal priesthood, who are resurrected to spiritual glory as co-priests with Jesus Christ in the coming Kingdom (the second highest of the classes of God's people, inferior only to the 24 elders)
Parousia - the invisible presence of Jesus Christ, which will immediately precede Christ's reign on earth. It will be announced to the world by means of the "sign of the Son of Man" - a large asteroid of great size, which will be visible from the earth like a bright star, and which will strike our planet on its next pass, thus giving rise to the apocalypse, and consequently the epiphany - the revelation of Christ to the world and the inauguration of his Kingdom
Pharaoh - the ruler of Egypt, who in the antitype represents satan as the god of the present world (Mt. 4:1,8-9; Jn. 12:31, 14:30; 2 Cor. 4:4; Eph. 2:2)
Redemption - Jesus Christ's provision of a corresponding price for Adam's transgression – the price of perfect obedience to God in bearing witness to the truth
Repentance - (Gr. metanoia) - literally 'change of mind' - turning away from conduct contrary to God's principles, disapproval for sin motivated by obligatory love (piety)
Resurrection - regeneration of 1) the material body - restoration of the physical shell of man, 2) the spiritual body - rebirth of the character, change of the way of thinking/ acting brought about by repentance and conversion
Royal priesthood - believers who, through their devoted service to the Gospel, have the hope of resurrection to the spiritual nature, where they will take positions in the governance of the kingdom of Christ
Sacrifice of Jesus Christ - the equivalent price (Gr. anti-lytron) that Jesus paid to free humanity from the effects of original sin: obedience for disobedience, a just deed for an unjust deed (Rom. 5:18,19)
Seal of the spirit - the influence of the spirit-begotten mind that reforms the character by 'imprinting' in it the structure of truth it possesses, like a seal imprints its structure in the plastic material
Sign of the Son of Man - our Lord's first coming was announced by a star-like object in the sky. According to Mt. 24:30, the same kind of sign was to announce his second coming. It will be fulfilled when a large asteroid will be passing the earth close enough, so it will be seen as a star to the human eye. During the flyby the earth's magnetism will affect its trajectory in such a way that the asteroid will find itself on a collision course with our planet. When this information finds its way to the public, the great tribulation will begin.
Soul - 1) living being (spiritual or corporeal), (2) complete personality, embracing spirit (mind) and body (character)
Spirit - 1) spiritual being; 2) science, doctrine; 3) influence, shaping power; 4) as a concept describing the mind, it means a) understanding, b) disposition, c) will
24 elders - members of the royal priesthood, who are resurrected to spiritual glory as joint-kings and joint-priests with Jesus Christ in the coming Kingdom (the highest class of God's people)
Two-edged sword - the apostle Paul's definition of God's Word in Heb. 4:12, indicating the power of the Scripture to separate soul and spirit. According to the equation: soul - spirit = body, God's teaching allows believers to identify the thinking and works of the body in themselves in order to be able to effectively eliminate them in the process of justification
Water - symbol of 1) the spirit (Jn. 7:37-39), 2) doctrines of the truth (Isa. 11:9, 55:10,11; SoS. 5:2; Jas. 3:10-12; 2 Pet. 2:15-17)
